Dreamworks Animation Designing Dreams Studio Internship

Wow, I haven't updated this in ages! So sorry for the long silence - I'll be sure to be more active from now on! Things have been really busy the last few months with some freelance projects I'm working on. And I found out some exciting news - I was accepted into DreamWorks Animation's Designing Dreams Studio internship program here in Australia! As part of the opening of the DreamWorks Animation Exhibition, Dreamworks and ACMI were holding a mentoring program with the Dreamworks studios in LA, called the 'Designing Dreams Studio'. They chose 5 applicants throughout Australia, and I was extremely happy to be one of them!

As part of the program, we were able to meet and learn from the Dreamworks artists while they were here in Melbourne for the opening of the exhibition - Kendal Cronkhite (Production Designer on the Madagascar films and many others), Jason Schleifer (Head of Animation on films such as Mr. Peabody and Sherman), Christophe Lautrette (Production Designer for The Croods and many more), and Doug Cooper (Visual Effects Supervisor on many films as well as being responsible for creating the Dragon Flight simulator at the exhibition). They were all so wonderful and friendly, and it was such a fantastic experience to meet them and learn from them! We were also fortunate enough to be able to meet Jeffrey Katzenberg (Dreamworks co-founder and CEO) and Bill Damaschke (Dreamworks Chief Creative Officer) briefly as well, which was also amazing! The whole week was wonderful. From here on, the program will continue via online video conferences with the LA studio, and runs until September. I'll be doing a piece of writing for ACMI soon, sharing my experiences with the program in more detail, so I'll post a more comprehensive account of my memories of the week here also once I have written it!

In the meantime, I remember I've meaning meaning to post this for a while but have never gotten around to it! This is a short film I created for the organisation Australia For Dolphins last year. They liked my student film "Whale Song", and asked me if I could create a similar film for them to help raise awareness of the dolphin hunts in Taiji. I was really happy to do something to help such a worthy cause. I also had some amazingly talented people working with me on this film - Jessica Harris, (who did some of the animation and the land backgrounds), Sonya Belousova (who composed the music), and Eric Schwartz (who created the sound design).

Anyway, here it is! Hope you enjoy!

Merry (very belated) Christmas!

This is a piece of art I made for a friend who I was studying with at Gobelins. We're doing an art swap at the moment. She sent me a lovely piece of art first, so then it was my turn. I sent it to her a while ago but am only just posting it up now, so it's a little late seeing as Christmas was three weeks ago! But anyway, hope everyone had a great holiday! :)
